A path that appears only when the screen is turned.
Turn the device at the right moment and a level reveals a secret, a puzzle changes its rules, gravity picks a new floor. Rotation is not a setting. It is a move.
A new handheld game console with real cartridges you collect and trade, built with the craft and constraints of the golden age, and one new idea: there’s no right way up.

Funf brings back what made the golden age of handhelds magical: real cartridges you collect and trade, games built on craft instead of spectacle, and a device simple and safe enough for a kid to own completely.
But unlike that bygone era, Funf is a whole new universe of original games which, while inspired by the classic 8 and 16 bit era, invent all new ways to play. The accelerometer changes the device entirely: with every turn, the screen and all of the physical controls reorient to create a completely new game experience.
Funf buttons don't have labels because labels are unidirectional. Our buttons have colored lights. Turn the device and the lights move with it: the color of the button under your right thumb is under your right thumb again, because the game names its controls by color, and up is whichever way your hands say up is.

For the first time ever in a handheld console, one-handed gameplay is a reality. The four funfurter buttons on the rear of the device can map to the basic action buttons, and with your thumb handling direction, the total power of Funf is literally in your hand. Flip the device 180 and it all maps to your other hand. Gaming to the ambidextreme!

Pop in a supported two-player game cartridge and go head-to-head with a friend on the same device. Need some help with a boss? Summon another character and have your friend grab the other side. Experience co-op and competitive gameplay in multiple orientations... all on the same device.
Need a little more space? Plug a cable between two Funfs and play face to face. Trade, race or cooperate across the room, with no internet, bluetooth or wifi to come between you and your friend.
Funf games are on real cartridges you collect and trade. And only cartridges: No online store or digital downloads ever. You own the game for life, and it will play just the same thirty years from now as the day you bought it. You buy it, you own it. Forever.
The moments

Turn the device at the right moment and a level reveals a secret, a puzzle changes its rules, gravity picks a new floor. Rotation is not a setting. It is a move.

A boss fight opens a second set of controls on the far edge. Lay it flat and two players face off across one screen. The buttons light up for whoever is holding them.

Plug a cable between two Funfs to trade, race or cooperate across the table. No radio, no internet, no accounts, no ads. Ever.

Real cartridges you collect and trade. Lend a friend your game and your world travels with it. Buy it once. Play it forever.
Pixels with intent
The same limits that made the golden-age classics immortal, enforced by the hardware rather than suggested by a style guide.
A 120 by 200 canvas in 256 colors. Chunky, beautiful pixels.
Pulse, triangle, noise and a wavetable. Music you will hum.
The hardware enforces it. Games cannot ship sluggish.
A console a kid can own completely. Nothing to manage.
New games, made only for this
Every title is built for the way a Funf is held, turned and shared. Here is a first look at what is on the bench.
A platformer with a twist: turn the device to shift the physics, find the secrets and get the recipe back.
An action adventure through a drowned castle, its whole world streamed from the cartridge.
A brawler with a story. Start with one finger and earn the other four.
Lay the Funf flat, grab an end each and face off across one screen.
Also in development: Mythwardens: Americanum, wardens of American myth and folklore. Art to come.
One engine, two doors
Anyone can make a game for a Funf, and anyone can make a cartridge. The cartridge spec is open. Shells can even be 3D printed.
For kids, classrooms and casual creators. Build a game in a browser in minutes, write it to a blank cartridge and hand it to a friend.
Coming with the console.
For developers. Lua, a clean API, and an emulator that carries the whole platform to your desk. Games developed at a desk run unchanged on the device.
